Thief lynched in Delta

A suspected thief was lynched by an angry mob on Tuesday morning in Jesse community, Ethiope West council area of Delta.


The incident, it was gathered, happened around 9am.


According to sources, the deceased, one of a two-man gang, had accosted a young lady with a toy gun and robbed her of her mobile phone and an undisclosed amount of money.


But during the robbery, she discovered the suspects were using a toy gun and raised the alarm.

This attracted people in the area who gave a hot chase, caught one of the suspects and immediately set him ablaze.

A gory photo of the burnt suspect was seen by The Nation.

The Nation had reported two robbery suspects suffered the same ill-fate a fortnight ago in Effurun, Uvwie council area of the state.


When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident.


She said: “Yes, it happened, but it was not reported”.
